Windwhistle Farm
Windwhistle Farm, the home of the Coleridge Way Cottages
is 36.5 acres of Exmoor heaven. Located on the top of the Brendon
Hills at the eastern end of Exmoor National Park. We are over 1,000
feet above sea level and south facing so when the sun shines it
is magnificent, when the rain comes we are quite often within the
cloud.

The view from the cottages
down Leigh barton can change in minutes when the weather turns.
Watch the fingers of mist clinging to the tops the trees near the
Mineral line incline of see the fantastic
colours of the Quantock Hills in the distance to the east. Never
a dull moment.
Being called WindWhistle farm is a very strong clue
in the name. It can howl up here but then sitting in the superbly
insulated cottages with the wood burner
going makes watching the weather a new experience.
We have a livery yard
with stables for 8 horses and an indoor riding arena. Being at the
mid point on the Coleridge Bridle
Way means that we get regular visitors to the yard for a little
rest & relaxation. Emma will happily accommodate your horse
in the yard for an overnight stay, a few days, or even a DIY livery
(if there is room). Alice our enthusiastic
freelance BHS qualified instructor teaches all ages and abilities.
The tack room and feed room have hot and cold water
and this where the washing machines and tumble dryers are for use
by the cottages. There is also a fully functioning toilet, however
the tack room and feed room and still under construction.

Some of our Very Free Range
chickens, ducks and now geese
In the yard we also have 13 chickens, 2 geese and
4 ducks. Eggs are regularly available under our own brand of "Very
Free Range". However, chickens are temperamental animals and
so there is no regular supply. Ask Emma if you fancy a few eggs
when you stay.

The two geese and cockerel
just before Christmas 2009.
Being over 36 acres we need to keep the grass down
and although the horses manicure the paddocks in front of the cottages,
the larger fields, known as Coldharbour, Avalon and Seven-Acre normally
have sheep in them supplied by the Bishops family at Lower Court
Farm in Treborough.
The hedge rows are very lush at Windwhistle and to
complement the beech bushes we have loads of Sloe trees. Hence the
annual Sloe Gin Championships,
normally held just before Christmas.
