Walking on Exmoor

near the Coleridge Way Cottages

Exmoor is walking heaven. You can walk along miles of sign-posted track, often without seeing another person for hours even though more people come to Exmoor to walk than any other activity. We have various maps and publications in the cottages with which you can plan a route. We are registered with EnjoyEngland.com as having special facilities for walkers such as washing and drying facilities, boot washing and maps of the local area.

Exmoor National Park organise guided walks and produce a good guide. You can even get full detail maps on the parks' website at: walking maps

We have two cottages Coleridge Cottage and Wordsworth Cottage both with double beds. Wordsworth can be converted into two single beds by request. Both cottages can be booked together to form one large cottage which sleeps 4 people, as they have secure interconnecting doors.

The Coleridge Way
The Coleridge Way is a 36 mile walking route through the stunning Somerset countryside of the Quantock Hills, the Brendon Hills and Exmoor National Park: a landscape that inspired Samuel Coleridge to produce some of his best known work.

The walk, from Nether Stowey to Porlock, can be completed over three or four consecutive days, making it ideal for a short break. The website is:
www.coleridgeway.co.uk. We are situated just off the Roadwater section so we are a perfect start of finish location. We are happy to take your luggage onto your next overnight destination, by prior arrangement.

The Two Moors Way
The Two Moors Way is a long-distance walking route between Ivybridge on the southern edge of Dartmoor and Lynmouth on the North Coast of Exmoor, comprehensively way marked except on the open moorland sections. It has a total length of 102 miles (163 km), making it an ideal week's walk.

The Way links the only two National Parks in southern England, and crosses both of them north-south. Not surprisingly, it passes through landscape of exceptionally high quality. Not only does this include the high moorland of some of the Dartmoor and Exmoor sections, but also the deep and wooded valleys of the moorland edges and between the moors, unspoilt rural scenery with a remote and tranquil feel difficult to find elsewhere in modern times. Walking mostly not too difficult, but one or two strenuous stretches; some unwaymarked open moorland requiring navigational skills.

The South West Coast Path
The South West Coast Path National Trail - 630 miles of superb coastal walking. From Minehead on the edge of the Exmoor National Park to the shores of Poole Harbour in Dorset it is the best way to enjoy the wonderful coastal scenery, wildlife and heritage.

The Tarka Trail
Over 30 miles of the Tarka Trail is available to cyclists between Braunton and Meeth, using the old railways of North Devon. Passing through the largely unspoilt countryside as it was described by Henry Williamson in his classic novel ‘Tarka the Otter’ first published in 1927.

The Exmoor Perambulation

Reborn as an annual event on Exmoor in 1983, the Perambulation is still growing in popularity. The walk is open to everyone, providing the opportunity to take part in an integral part of Exmoor’s history.

Mid summers weekend, the 21st of June, will see will see walkers across Exmoor embarking on the 31 mile challenge. To book call Jeff Cox on 01769 520397.
