Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the most frequently asked questions but please call us directly and we will be happy to answer any of your questions.

What do you need to bring? Just yourselves since all the bed linen, deep duvets, towels and bath towels are supplied, free of charge. You will need to bring your own food since they are self catering cottages, but then again with such good local places to eat out you may decide to skip that as well.

Where is the closest shop? It is about 3 miles away in Roadwater but there are lots of good local stores. See our list of local shopping.

Where is the nearest Pub? The nearest pub is the Valiant Solider in Roadwater which is about 2 miles downhill. See our local pubs

Where is the nearest restaurant? The Valiant Solider in Roadwater serves really good food and Ralegh's Cross Inn is only about 2 1/4 miles. See our places to eat

Can pets stay? Yes, two small dogs are very welcome. Unfortunately we do not welcome cats. If you have any special requirements then contact us. See our dog Friendly page for more details.

What is the weather like? When the sun shines this place is paradise. We are 1,000 feet above sea level so it is normally about 2 degrees cooler than in the valley, but then we do have full central heating and a log burning fire to keep you warm. In the winter, we can often find ourselves in the cloud so do bring warm weather proof clothing if you are venturing out.

What are the local attractions? We are in Exmoor National Park and there is loads to do, sun or rain. We are close to great walks, cycle paths and horse rides, straight out of the cottages since we are on foot and bridle ways. Look at our local activities and Places of Interests page for more details. Check out the list of events and festivals.

Is it safe for pets? The cottages have their own fenced garden so your dogs can wander around off a lead. As long as they do not disturb the guest in the other cottage. There is a point to secure the leads on each patio. We ask that you poop-scoop the garden after your dog. Outside of the cottages and garden, we ask that you keep your dog on a lead since it is a working farm with sheep around. The road is 100 yards away from the cottages.

Can we sit in the garden? Yes, each cottage has it's own garden table and two garden chairs to admire the views. The garden is shared with the other cottage although you do have a hazel fence to separate the patio and give you some privacy.

How many cars can we bring? The car park is adjacent to the cottages so you can bring atleast two cars per cottage. If you have larger vehicles like motorhomes, horse trailers or horse lorries, then we do have parking for these just 50 yards from the cottages. However, please check before you bring a larger vehicle, just in case we have something else going on.

What is the central heating? We have under-floor heating in all the rooms which is individually controlled by thermostats in each room. We also have a log burning stove in each cottage so you can get very toasty if you wish. The cottages are very well insulated to the latest building standards and have double glazed windows throughout.

Do you have a fully fitted kitchen? Yes, Gas hob, electric fan assisted oven, dishwasher, fridge with freezer box, Belfast sink, microwave, toaster and kettle. The kitchens are fully fitted with all the crockery, cutlery, pans, etc you will need for four people so you can and are welcome to invite your guests for lunch or dinner. The table has leaves so will easily sit four and can extend to six people.

Is it suitable for young children? You can bring small children but we have not fitted them out to be tailored for small children. They have been fitted with adults in mind.

Is there somewhere safe to lock up our bicycles? We have been assessed and accredited by Enjoy England for the Cyclist welcome programme. You can lock up your bicycles in a stable in the yard. Inside a horse trailer or if you are particularly worried then we can lock it in our front hall (by appointment).

Can we bring our own horses? Yes, by prior arrangement with Emma. We have a livery yard with 8 stables adjacent to the cottages. So we encourage you to bring your horses and ride the local routes or ride the Coleridge Bridle Way. Alice our enthusiastic freelance BHS qualified instructor teaches all ages and abilities.

When will I receive my confirmation? As soon as we have received or processed your payment we will send you a confirmation of your booking.

Can I book non-standard start day, for example Tuesday? Yes you can as long as we do not have a booking either side. Give us a call or email us to check availability.

When will I receive the driving directions to the property? You will be sent directions with your booking confirmation. We also have a page with all the directions on it or contact us and we can email or post you directions on how to find the cottages.

How can I tell if a property is suitable for a wheelchair user / person with restricted mobility? We have produced an access statement which gives full details of the cottages, please check it to see if it meets your needs. Alternatively, please contact us directly and we will be happy to talk with you about your requirements.
